When it comes to choosing the perfect frame to showcase your artwork, I first always recommend supporting your local framer! Qualities like archival glass, reduced glare, and warping prevention are worthy of consideration when it comes to heirloom pieces and it's inherently best to shop small. However, this option is not always time and budget friendly and it's sometimes wise to let artwork live in a space before making a more long term framing investment.
Golden State Art* is a California-based company that sells their frames through Amazon. They're a favorite of mine because they ship quickly, price reasonably, they're communicative, they have a range of materials and finishes, and I appreciate the quality. Their glass is sturdily glued to their frames and most have reduced glare and archival qualities.
Pottery Barn* also offers gallery frames in a range of materials and finishes and are known for their quality and customer service.
Framebridge* is a high quality custom framing service that makes frames to order. They come highly recommended by many of my colleagues and are known for their attention to detail. To utilize this option, purchase one of their frames and select 12x12 unmatted, and send me the order information. I then ship the matted artwork directly to them to frame.
Many frames include hanging templates for measuring, leveling, and visualizing your layout before you put holes in your wall. Amazon* has a nifty kit with all the tools one needs for accurate and efficient hanging. There is also a video on YouTube with 7 helpful hanging hacks - the toothpaste trick has been a gamechanger for me!
